Kids ‘Little Foragers’ Menu + New July Dishes Launched at York’s ‘Waste-Less’ Neighbourhood Restaurant

Located in the heart of York’s restaurant scene, innovative social fine-dining restaurant, Forage Bar & Kitchen has launched a new July menu featuring fresh, local and foraged ingredients – including a ‘Little Foragers’ menu where children can choose a main, side, dessert and drink, for just £9.50.

July dishes at the Little Stonegate restaurant, which serves eclectic cuisine with seasonal and local produce cooked over fire, include Onglet steak with braised butter beans, foraged wild garlic and goats curd; summer squash hummus, curry leaf oil and flatbread; creamy smoked burrata, with a pickled plum and beetroot salad; Zataar marinaded lamb rump, served with sumac tzatki, mint chutney and pomegranate; charred baby leeks drizzled in sichuan dressing with wild rice, and fried okra with a curry emulsion.

The restaurant’s ‘Little Foragers’ menu boasts a selected range of freshly prepared, cooked to order dishes perfect for the little ones, where they can choose from a selection of delicious dishes including a flavour-packed pork belly bao bun, a charred oyster mushroom skewer and a sophisticated fish finger and pea puree dish – each served with freshly prepared fries.

Forage owner Callum Houston’s philosophy and ‘waste-less’ ethos combines small-plate social dining and contemporary fusion cooking with locally sourced, foraged, and ‘upcycled’ ingredients to create exciting, fresh and eco-friendly flavours with as little waste as possible.

Upcycled and foraged ingredients featuring in the July menu include a coffee rubbed pork belly bao bun with used coffee grounds; fried scallops with seasoning salt made from the dehydrated roe, accompanied with potato scraps, curry, and pea puree, as well as a delightful panna cotta made with elderflower sourced directly from a wooded area on the outskirts of York, served with fennel granita, tasty yogurt crumble and a cherry sorbet.

Callum Houston, owner of Forage Bar & Kitchen, said: “As a restaurant owner committed to delivering exceptional taste experiences to all our guests, it has always been important for us to cater to all the family, including children who might have picky palettes but still desire flavour-packed, nutritious food.

“We feel that our Little Foragers menu, which accompanies our monthly-changing main menu, brings locally sourced and fresh ingredients into something a little different from the usual dishes on a children’s menu. This way we are able to entertain the whole family while engaging young taste buds to discover new, enticing flavours.”

Plates at the restaurant, which seats 90 guests, start from £4, rising to £29 for its ribeye steak and confit garlic, with truffle and a herb pesto dressing. Little Foragers can dine for £9.50, which includes a plate, side, dessert and drink.
