Food enthusiasts in the North East are in for a delightful treat as Sunderland Restaurant Week makes its highly anticipated return next month, promising a gastronomic extravaganza of discounted delicacies and enticing prizes. Organized by Sunderland BID (Business Improvement District), the biannual event will run from September 14 to 22, with a wide array of eateries across the city offering mouthwatering deals and discounts.
In a strategic partnership, Sunderland BID has joined forces with Nexus, the operator of the Tyne and Wear Metro, to elevate the culinary experience for participants. As a special treat, the BID has devised a new “foodie passport” that will be available at all participating restaurants, bars, and cafés. Visitors need only collect five stamps and receipts to be entered into a tantalizing prize draw.
The grand prize is a £300 Sunderland gift card, redeemable at over 200 venues throughout the city, including bars, restaurants, shops, salons, therapy centres, the Sunderland Empire Theatre, and the recently joined Omniplex cinema. Additionally, the lucky winner will receive a £50 Tyne and Wear Metro Pop Pay As You Go card, granting them the freedom to explore the city centre and beyond, savouring all it has to offer.
Huw Lewis, Customer Services Director at Nexus, expressed his delight at the partnership, stating, “We’re delighted to have Tyne and Wear Metro as a partner with the latest Sunderland Restaurant Week, which promises to showcase everything which is good about the city. This is a celebration of international cuisine – organised by Sunderland BID – and promises some great value offers at a wide range of well-known and new local restaurants, pubs and bars. What better way to check out Restaurant Week than to hop on the Metro into Sunderland and see what’s on the menu. Kids Go Free on Metro too, making it an affordable, fun and delicious day out for families.”
Sunderland’s thriving leisure and hospitality scene continues to flourish, with the list of participating venues growing each year. Newcomers such as The Botanist, I Scream for Pizza, and Vito’s Osteria are joining the festivities for the first time, while local favourites like Asiana, Angelos, Ivy House, and Port of Call make a welcome return.
Sharon Appleby, Chief Executive of Sunderland BID, highlighted the initiative’s instrumental role in establishing Sunderland as a “go-to” destination for food lovers. “Over the past few years, we have developed a really strong reputation not just for the quality of our restaurants, but for their diversity,” she said. “They offer a vast range of cuisines in every style, from street food to fine dining and with dishes to suit all budgets. And with Restaurant Week offering even greater discounts, it’s a fantastic opportunity to either revisit or try somewhere new.”
With participating restaurants, cafes, pubs, and bars offering £10, £15, or £20 deals, Sunderland Restaurant Week promises an unparalleled culinary adventure. Vouchers and information are available at www.sunderlandbid.co.uk/restaurant-week, ensuring that food lovers can plan their gastronomic journey with ease.
