With the average monthly rent for a one-bedroom apartment in the UK totalling £919.26, it’s no surprise couples are choosing to move in together sooner rather than later to save money.

New research from home appliance brand, SharkNinja reveals that 37% of the nation would move in with a partner after just one year of dating.

But while cohabiting might sound like a dream setup for some, not everyone’s convinced it’s a good idea…

SharkNinja’s research found that 40% of people think couples are moving in together too quickly. In fact, 1 in 10 in the UK admitted to regretting moving in with a partner within just four weeks of taking the leap and 50% regret moving in together within the first year.

To help couples figure out whether they’re truly ready to share a space, SharkNinja surveyed 2,000 people across the nation to see where in the UK couples are moving the fastest in their relationships.

The study found that Newcastle couples are moving faster than any other UK city when it comes to relationships, with the average Geordie couple saying ‘I love you’ after 6.9 months of knowing each other.

With an overall index score of 85/100, Newcastle couples move in together after 15.7 months of being together on average (1 year and 3 months), the quickest out of all other cities surveyed.

When compared to Manchester couples who take an average of 24.8 months to move in together, there is a huge difference in relationship timelines across UK cities.

When it comes to proposals, Newcastle couples would ideally wait 25.8 months before getting engaged, just over two years into the relationship. It appears other cities would rather wait longer with Birmingham (34.3 months), Norwich (33.9) and Cardiff (34.9) preferring to pop the question closer to the three-year anniversary.
