Following the success of 2021, Welcome To Whitby are bringing the Whitby Ice Rink back for its second year from the 2nd December 2022, and is set to be bigger and better than before.

To support this community event, Whitby Seafoods are generously helping to sponsor the event for the second year running by creating the Whitby Seafoods Community Ice Skating Programme.

Whitby Seafoods, being the largest employer in the local area wanted to give back to the local community and were therefore eager to support the community schools programme for the second year running.

The programme allows as many young people as possible to have the experience of ice skating – something that many people locally simply don’t have access to.  They understand the importance and value schools place on extra-curricular activities, especially in times of financial uncertainty, so hope that this programme delivers benefits to them in many ways.

The Whitby Seafoods sponsorship means that they have created 800 opportunities for school children to take to the ice, when booked through their schools. The sponsorship is yet another step forward in breaking down socioeconomic barriers and pushing more affordable access to support families during a cost-of-living crisis.

The tickets are available until the 15th November.

Barry Harland, Head of Organisational Development and Culture from Whitby Seafoods said:  “Whitby Seafoods were eager to support the community schools programme as we wanted as many young people as possible to have the experience of ice skating – something that many people locally simply don’t have access to.  We understand the importance and value schools place on extra-curricular activities, especially in times of financial uncertainty, so we hope that this programme delivers benefits to them in many different ways.

Andy Brown, Chairman of Welcome To Whitby said:

We are delighted that Whitby Seafoods have agreed to sponsor the community schools programme again this year.  Last year the school children loved their time on the ice and as a community project team we are determined to make sure that as many locals as possible can take part.

The family-focused rink will be open until 2nd January 2023, giving everyone across the Yorkshire Coast the chance to come down and glide into the festive spirit. Whatever the weather, visitors will be able to skate under the cover of an all-weather marquee on the beautiful Endeavour Wharf.

With more than five thousand skaters taking to the rink in 2021, this year’s rink will be 60% bigger at a whopping 12m x 20m.
