Shear pleasure for dads this Father’s Day

FOOTBALL loving dads can enjoy a special Father’s Day gift this month (June) thanks to a Tyneside brewery and a North East charity.

Heaton-based Anarchy Brewery’s Shearer’s Beer – named after the legendary goalscorer – is specifically brewed to raise funds for the Alan Shearer Centre in Newcastle.

And, to celebrate Father’s Day on Sunday 21 June, the brewery is releasing a three can gift pack – so dads can enjoy a pint or three while also supporting a worthwhile cause.

The Alan Shearer Centre, operated by St Cuthbert’s Care and supported by the Alan Shearer Foundation, offers free use of sensory spaces and specialist leisure facilities to families living with complex disabilities.

The Foundation is currently running Million Pound Mission; a 12-month campaign to raise £1m to build a second hydrotherapy pool at the Alan Shearer Centre.

Demand for the Centre has grown significantly, with membership now reaching 10,000. As a result, the hydrotherapy pool is now oversubscribed, meaning some families are waiting longer or missing out on consistent access to sessions.

A second pool would directly address this, increasing capacity, reducing waiting times and ensuring more families can access the support they need.

Sales of Shearer’s Foundation Brew – known as Shearer’s Beer – have already raised in excess of £9k to help the centre support families in need.

And Anarchy hopes that sales of the gift pack will help nudge the Million Pound Mission nearer its fundraising target.

Anarchy Brewery manager Phil Beaty said: “We are absolutely committed to supporting the Alan Shearer Centre and we hope this gift pack will appeal to anyone looking for a present for a football mad or beer loving dad.

“Not only is Shearer’s Beer a really great pint but every pack and can sold takes the Million Pound Mission closer to reaching its target and helping people here in the North East.”

Matt Bowmaker, director, Alan Shearer Foundation, said: “Demand at the Alan Shearer Centre has never been higher, so we’re incredibly grateful to Anarchy Brewery for their continued support.

“Every gift pack sold helps raise vital funds for our Million Pound Mission and brings us one step closer to building a second hydrotherapy pool.

The Shearer’s Beer gift pack is available at bars and retail outlets across the North East, including Fenwick, Rehills at Jesmond and Enjoy Beer, at Morpeth.
