After a seven-year break from touring, Canadian comedian Phil Nichol is returning to the stage with “Trying My Best,” with several shows planned across northern England and Scotland.
The Edinburgh Comedy Award winner has scheduled several northern dates as part of his 2025-2026 UK tour, bringing his blend of musical comedy, storytelling, and energetic performance style to venues from Manchester to Aberdeen.
Manchester kicks off Nichol’s northern shows on Tuesday, October 28th at the Frog and Bucket, a well-known venue for comedians who specialize in audience interaction.
The tour then heads to Hull on Wednesday, November 5th as part of the Hull Comedy Festival at Truck Theatre, before making its way to the iconic Lytham St. Annes at the Lowther Pavilion on Tuesday, November 11th.
Liverpool’s Hot Water Comedy will host Nichol on Thursday, November 13th, featuring his blend of warmth and sharp crowd work.
Scotland features three consecutive nights at The Stand venues: Newcastle on Sunday, December 7th, Glasgow on Monday, December 8th, and Edinburgh on Tuesday, December 9th.
Comedy fans in Leeds can see the show at Glee on Monday, February 16th, 2026, while those in Aberdeen can catch Nichol at Breakneck Comedy Club on Thursday, March 12th.
“Trying My Best” will feature material from Phil Nichol’s 38-year career in comedy. The show includes his well-known songs such as “You Can’t Say That to Me,” “Sleazy Massage,” and the Corky and the Juice Pigs song “Only Gay Eskimo.”
Between the musical numbers, Nichol performs his comedy routines and stories about life as a Canadian in the UK, modern transport frustrations, and observations about English humour and drinking culture.
Since starting his career in March 1987 as part of the musical comedy trio Corky and the Juice Pigs, Nichol has performed in 52 countries, written 23 Edinburgh Festival shows, and won several comedy awards including the Edinburgh Comedy Award in 2006 for “The Naked Racist.”
His previous tour, “Your Wrong” in 2018, included over 150 shows across 15 countries. This new tour marks his return to stand-up after focusing on acting in recent years, including his role in Spiegelworld’s “The Hook” in Atlantic City.
