A Lake District spa resort has completed a £500,000 investment project to extend its indoor and outdoor facilities.
English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues has added an outdoor balcony, new lounge space and extra treatment rooms to its award-winning spa at Low Wood Bay.
The completion of the balcony bridge, with scenic fellside views and access to the spa’s outdoor thermal facilities from the refurbished Fell View lounge, coincides with the resort picking up two more national and international accolades.
Low Wood Bay has just been featured in the top 10% of listings worldwide in the Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards for 2026. The spa has also again been awarded the Good Spa Guide’s ‘Five Bubble Luxury’ rating for this year.
Tripadvisor is the world’s largest travel guidance platform with listings based on highly rated customer reviews, experiences and attractions around the world. The Five Bubble Luxury award from the Good Spa Guide is its highest rating and equivalent to a 5-star hotel accreditation in terms of excellence in the spa industry.
Product development manager at English Lakes Hotels Annabel Berry says: “The new balcony connecting bridge blends the contemporary touches of the relaxation lounge with the breathtaking scenery that defines our resort. It offers a smooth transition from our cosy interiors to the expansive views across Windermere.
“We’ve shaped the entire project with great care to create an overall atmosphere that adds even more comfort and serenity to our spa. Feedback from our guests has been wonderful and it has also created an environment which inspires our spa team to maintain the highest standards of service.”
The spa extension project at Low Wood Bay was achieved in collaboration with DV8 Designs, Mason Gillibrand Architects and Cubby Construction.
Group operations director at English Lakes Hotels Michael Kay adds: “This investment project reinforces our commitment to exceptional guest experiences and strengthens our position as a leading Lake District destination for luxury relaxation and holistic wellbeing. It’s doubly gratifying to have been recognised as such by both Tripadvisor and the Good Spa Guide in the same month.”
