Kendal College in Cumbria is joining forces with Simon Rogan, his team and all the Michelin starred chefs of Cumbria to host a seven-course dinner in aid of the Bocuse d’Or UK Academy* on Monday 16 March 2020. The Bocuse d’Or is the world’s largest and most prestigious cooking competition, but the UK has yet to win the award.

Ranked number one by FE Week, Kendal College will become a Michelin starred venue for one night only, with catering students and lecturers all taking part to ensure a truly memorable experience.

The dinner, instigated by Simon Rogan in his role of President of Bocuse d’Or Team UK, will be a celebration of the region’s culinary talent. Cumbria now has eight Michelin Stars following the three new stars given in this year’s awards. Simon’s team will be led by Sam Ward, managing director of Umbel Restaurant Group and Tom Barnes, executive chef of his Cumbrian restaurants.

Ryan Blackburn of The Old Stamp House, Ben Wilkinson of Cottage in the Wood, and Richard Swale of Allium at Askham Hall were all new entries in the 2020 Michelin guide. They will team up with Hrishikesh Desai of Gilpin Hotel and Lake House, Paul Leonard of Forest Side, Tom Barnes representing Rogan & Co and Paul Burgalières, head chef at the two Michelin starred L’Enclume.

The evening will commence with welcome drinks and snacks prepared by Brian Limoges, head chef at Henrock – Rogan’s most recent opening, before diners are seated ready for a seven-course tasting menu with each course prepared by one of the Michelin-starred chefs.

Rogan says, “Bringing these chefs together will demonstrate how much talent we have in this region alone, never mind the UK. With the right funding and preparation, there is nothing to stop the UK Team from winning the Bocuse d’Or and in Ian Musgrave we have a fantastic candidate.”

“As chefs, we all need to motivate and inspire the next generation to learn our craft, so it’s fantastic to have Kendal College hosting the dinner. I’m hugely grateful to all the chefs, lecturers and students taking part – they are each helping us on our journey!”

Profits from the evening will go towards the Bocuse d’Or Team UK and will contribute towards a culinary study trip to Seville for Kendal College students. Further monies will be raised by a silent auction and table raffle. Tickets are priced at £185 per person or £1,750 for a table of ten and include welcome drinks, snacks, a seven-course meal and wine.
