The Brink is set to welcome volunteers from past and present to its Parr Street venue for a special event on Friday, June 7 to celebrate National Volunteer Week.

Supported by crucial funding from The Albert Gubay Foundation, The Brink provides training and voluntary opportunities in a number of roles such outreach and within kitchen and front of house teams with the aim to help service users re-enter the workplace.

The event hopes to bring locals and members of the recovery community together to recognise the contribution of volunteers with a series of special awards. Guests can expect a BBQ feast alongside a selection of healthy smoothies, with Brazilian band Sarava Brazil set to take to the stage for entertainment.

Volunteer Coordinator at The Brink Donna Williamson said: “It’s so important to us to recognise the incredible work of our volunteers, not just because of what their time and dedication means to our family of clients and customers here at The Brink, but many have had their own personal battles with addiction in the past. Becoming a volunteer is an important step in their recovery and we strongly believe that they should be given every opportunity to regain the confidence to allow them to go back to work in the long-term.

We’ve seen first-hand how volunteering opportunities have helped individuals develop new skills, but most importantly, it has allowed many of them to help others by sharing their own experiences.”

As part of national charity Action on Addiction, the Liverpool dry bar and café works with 50 volunteers annually, 80% of whom are also in recovery and many volunteers have gone on to take up permanent staff positions at The Brink.

Donna added: “Much of this event will be about celebrating our past and present volunteers but we also want to show people what an impact they could have if they’re interested in joining The Brink’s volunteer scheme, particularly those with an interest in social media or fundraising. Our doors are always open to everyone and this is the perfect opportunity to come along and get involved.”

The Volunteer Celebration event will be held at The Brink on Friday, June 7 from 4pm to 7pm and is open to all.
