The team from Cumbrian bakers Lovingly Artisan, based at Plumgarths, near Kendal, have just found out that they had been named Cumbria’s best bakery. They were named alongside 66 other county champions from across the UK, in the inaugural Bakery Business Magazine National Bakery awards.

The National Bakery Awards aims to put the finest on-trade businesses across the UK in the spotlight, showcasing just how diverse and creative the country’s bakery industry really is.

The winning bakeries have been selected on their levels of overall best practice across a number of operational categories.

The winning county bakeries will be officially crowned at a swanky red-carpet celebration at BAFTA 195 Piccadilly, in London, on Tuesday 4th June, hosted by television presenter Mark Durden-Smith.

During the evening 13 Regional Winners will also be announced, alongside the overall National Bakery of the Year winner 2019.

Commenting on their win husband and wife Aidan Monks and Catherine Connor, owners and bakers at Lovingly Artisan, said:

“What a roller coaster year we are having, picking up a highly commended judges award in the Cumbria Family Business Awards, Food Producer of The Year in The Cumbria Life Food & Drink Awards, Northwest Regional Winner and The UK’s Best Bakery at the Farm Shop and Deli Show and now this award. We can’t get over it, it’s such a huge pat on the back for the whole team and shows that we are on the right track delivering the best possible products to both our retail and wholesale customers across the Northwest of England from our bakeries in Cumbria and Manchester. The whole team take great pride in what we do, quite simply we want to showcase what Cumbria’s food and drink industry is all about to the whole of the UK and we hope in some small way we are helping to put the region firmly on the UK’s food map.”
